Favorite Crime Podcasts

Podcasts seem to be quickly growing in popularity, but sometimes we need some recommendations about which ones to listen to. Not only are there so many different topics, there are so many to choose from within a specific topic that it can be difficult to know which ones are worth taking the time to listen to and which ones just aren’t. Basically, we need to separate the gems from the duds. With that being said, I wanted to share with y’all some of my favorite true crime podcasts. True crime is a topic I’m super interested in and maybe even a little obsessed with if I’m being honest. I think it’s also a topic that many other people find really interesting, so here are my true crime podcast picks for any true crime lovers like myself. The podcasts will be listed in no particular order.

My Favorite Murder
This one is basically two women talking about murder cases they find interesting. They aren’t big off being super serious or doing tons of research. If you’re looking for a little comedic relief while still getting your true crime fix, this one is definitely for you.

This one is all about crimes that are a little bit odd and not something you would expect. For example, there’s an episode about people who fake their own death! If you’re looking for something a little bit out of the ordinary and still super interesting, this one is definitely for you.

Up and Vanished
This one is about the disappearance of a high school teacher named Tara Grinstead. A filmmaker came across her unsolved case and decided to look deeper into it. It’s super interesting and captivating in my opinion. Another cool thing about this one is there is new developments in her case as recent as the end of February. If a super mysterious and complex case sounds like something you’d be interested in, I highly recommend this podcast.

Snapped The Podcast
This is a podcast spin off of the tv show Snapped from the channel Oxygen. They basically go over certain cases the producer was really captivated by while filming. The only downside to this podcast is that there aren’t very many episodes. I think they decided to stop recording them a little while back. But if you’re a fan of the tv show Snapped, this one is definitely for you.

This podcast is the one that got me into true crime podcasts to begin with! The first season is the story of Adnan Syed, a guy who was convicted of his ex girlfriend’s murder when they were in high school. But not every is convicted he’s guilty. The first season of this podcast explores this possibility. The second season is about Bowe Bergdahl. I have not listened to the second season, but if you are only interested in one of the seasons, I still highly recommend checking out Serial.

If you like second season of Serial, the first season of this podcast would be great for you. It delves deeper into Adnan’s case and kind of lays out why he deserved a new trial. The second season looks into other cases that they believe should be retried. I haven’t listened to the second season yet, but I can say without a doubt that the first season is worth listening to after you listen to season one of Serial.

I’m a totally true crime fanatic and true crime podcasts have easily become one of my favorite things lately. I hope these suggestions are put to good use for any other true crime or podcast lovers up there! If you listen to these podcasts and would like to share your thoughts or have any other true crime podcasts you’d like to recommend—feel free to let the Tribe 21 team know about it either down in the comments on this post or on twitter.
